An Open Letter to Paul McCartney
Okay. It's been very hard to keep this blog on any kind of footing lately, They shape out country is in, it's jsut hard to find any way to find a laugh in all of it,
And this post is not about a laughing matter. This is about an outrage.
To wit:
BLM Vandals Strike Elvis Presley's Graceland
Writer Bryan Preston reprints a Tweet from Joyce Peterson @Memphislady:
"The wall outside @VisitGraceland in #Memphis where #Elvis fans write their names and tributes to The King was vandalized overnite. #BlackLivesMatter #DefundMPD #AbolishIce & #BreonnaTaylor were spray painted all over the wall."

What are we going to do about this, America?
Let's start with a phone call.
Non-existent assistant? Get me Paul McCartney on the horn!
"Hello, Sir Paul? Fine, fine, and you? Listen I'd love to catch up, but we got a situation here. Remember Black Lives Matter? Sure you do, you have a post on your website about how we should all support them. But have you seen what they did to Graceland? To Graceland? The home of Elvis Presley?
You remember the place, You were there once, back in '65. Remember? You and your fellow Beatles were so awestruck that at first you just stood there with your mouths hanging open. Finally The King had to bring you back down to earth and say he thought you were there to jam. So you did. And you had the time of your life, am I right?
And look what those vandals did to the place.
I know, I know! You thought they were the good guys, right? No no, no need to be embarrassed, plenty of people made that mistake. But seriously. Don't you think it's time you withdrew your support?
Ok, so you don't care about Portland. You don't care about the arson or the assaults or the rest of the mob violence. You didn't care about Minneapolis either. But come on, man, you're supposed to care about music. Which includes, I hope, music heritage. And be honest, if it weren't for Elvis, would there ever even have been the Beatles in the first place?
You know how you felt the first time you heard "Heartbreak Hotel." You played it endlessly. You tried to learn the whole album. In your own words, "Everything we did was based on that album."
And now look what the BLMers have done to Graceland. Go on, click the link, check the pictures. They have defaced, dare I say desecrated, the home of the King.
You still with me, Paul? Oh. Oh, I get it. You checked the pictures and you're shocked into silence. I know. I feel the same way.
So I'm calling to ask you to step up to the plate here. Stand up to bullies. Stand up to mob violence.
Stand up for the King. You owe him that much, Paul. You know it and I know it.
What? Oh, sure! Love to get together after Covid. In the meantime give my best to Blighty. And the kids. And the grandkids. And the tofu.
