First They Came For The Elotes
"Elotes Woodfire Grill was slated to open Thursday on West 7th Street, inside the keystone Keg & Case Market space left vacant by In Bloom. However, the new restaurant wasn’t able to welcome guests due to an issue with the building’s fire suppression equipment.
Protesters also picketed outside the restaurant. According to an online petition, they took issue with the owner, Brian Ingram, using the word “Elotes” in the restaurant’s name. The protesters say the word is sacred, as it stems from an indigenous word for corn, a native crop. There was no issue with Ingram’s interpretation of Mexican street food.
"Quickly, the restaurant rebranded as Woodfired Cantina."

Update- September 14, 2020
"The chief executives of a popular Twin Cities restaurant chain have agreed to cease calling itself 'Pannekoeken Huis' after protests from the local Dutch community objected to the name.
"'The pancake is a sacred thing to the people of Holland,' says Hans Drinker, a local activist and speed-skating coach. 'Generations of Dutch children were raised on it, and countless college students basically survived on pancakes for years. To see the word 'pannekoeken' used like this is disrespectful and shameless cultural appropriation.'
'The Dutch American community has been taking it on the chin lately,' says Heiko Heikosson, a community leader in New York. "I mean, shoot, look what happened to the Tappan Zee bridge! That dipstick governor changed its name to the Mario Cuomo Bridge- I mean, I ask you, is that even fun to pronounce? And what's with giving it an Italian name? Sure, it's the governor's dad's name, but did the Italians settle New York? Nooit, pal- it was the Dutch! What's next, the Spuyten Duyvil?"
A group calling itself the Peg Leg Stuyvesant Irregulars has threatened to go to Minnesota Public Radio, which recently instituted an Open Whine Line, if the name is not changed immediately.
