Honestly, What's A Girl Got To Do To Get a Decent Shotgun These Days?
We're trying to think of things to keep our minds occupied between now and Tuesday. With this in mind, DIH set out to do a little shopping and commence a new hobby.
But she was thwarted.
Last week I got my Permit to Purchase. Apparently the folks at the Sherff's office decided I couod be trusted with a little firepower. I was thrilled.
"You looking for home security?" asked the very young very sweet-faced deputy who porcessed my paperwork. I said I was. "Shotgun," he said. "Best home security out there. SO much easier to handle than a small sidearm."
So with my little Permit card in hand I went shotgun shopping.
I tried four different shops. Every single one of them was sold out of shotguns.
"Yeah, we've been getting a lot of demand," they told me. "I don't know when we'll have them back in stock."
I thought about this increased demand, and it makes perfect sense really. I mean, during our riots last summer the police were powerless. Even the National Guard when they finally showed up, were unable to help, since the governor failed to issue an order for them to act. So the stores burned and the Kmarts were looted and whoever sells the plywood you used to board up windows made a killing.
And quite a few people decided they were on their own.
And the firearms flew off the shelves. Ditto ammo.
Now I suppose I'll have to sign up for a Concealed Carry class, if I can get into one. I hear there are waiting lists.
Maybe I'll get in a class before Christmas. Then I can channel my inner Ralphie Parker and ask Santa for a cute little Sig Sauer. Now that woule be a Christmas to remember.
My unsolicited suggestion is one of those .38 specials that looks like it fell out of a 1940s detective movie.
ReplyDeleteI love mine, it's easy to clean, the ammo is usually easy to find and you can get plinker stuff, and if you get the home defense rounds (they're designed to not go *through* the first thing you hit-- which means the momentum is spent via basically exploding in the first thing) you have five shots to make it so whatever you're defending against has too big of a chunk missing to continue to threaten you and yours.
