Apocalypse On Hold!

Whew.  For a little while there I thought it really over.

But after looking into the details, Desperate is reassured:  the world in not, in fact, coming to an end.  Proof positive:

They are NOT, repeat NOT, turning James Bond into a woman!

Although British actress Lashana Lynch will play 007 in the 25th movie in the franchise,  she's  not really James Bond. She's just an agent who has inherited his number.

As of April 3, 2020- the release date for Bond 25- James Bond will be retired, and his number, the rare and totally awesome double "0" designation, will go to a gal.  James will still be around to help the new 007 out, so we'll still get to see Daniel Craig do his James thing.

Desperate does not like to be all negative-y, but I don't predict great success for Bond 25.  The filmmakers can parse it all they want, but it seems like they really wanted to make James Bond a woman but then lost their nerve, so they came up with this gimmick. Which, prediction #2, will not stick.

Why the big push to make Bond a woman, anyway?  Can't they just make a fantastic female villain for Bond to defeat?  Come on, being a villain is empowering!  Did Pussy Galore let being female cramp her style? She did not.  She was one powerful bad guy- er, bad gal- er. villain.  Okay, she was no Goldfinger.  But still. She had it in her, I'm sure of it.

And what about spymaster M?  Judi Dench was terrific!  Why can't they just have a bunch of female M's?  Although that would probably make for some tricky forms to fill out.  "Name:  M.  Sex:  F."  I can see how it could get confusing.

Hollywood tried a female "Ghostbusters," and it sank like a stone.    They must be a bunch of real slow learners out there.

As for me, I'm going back to reading the Ian Fleming books.  They're more fun than the movies anyway.

Speaking of Ian Fleming's books- what gender was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
