Thank You

My thanks to everyone for their prayers and condolences. If I can ask a favor, Fr. Halligan's family need your prayer right now, too.

My daughter goes to kindergarten at a small Catholic school in one of the Mpls. suburbs. Starting in first grade, all the students are required to attend Mass every morning. The Kindergarten kids are deemed too young, and constitutionally incapable of sitting still long enough.

So Sophia and I, and the rest of the K class, arrive at the school just as the older kids are streaming out of the church.

Surveying the crowd yesterday, Sophia asked, "How come they all have tattoos on their foreheads?"

Welcome to another Lent, everybody.

  2. I love it! Only children can come up with that. God bless them!

And I love that they go every day. May God give me the grace to get my lazy butt out of bed and do the same!

  3. I was flabbergasted when I discovered that kids in Catholic schools don't go to Mass every day. Why pay all that money if you're not getting the full Catholic treatment?

Maybe the teachers don't want to go!

The last time I went to Mass at a parish with a school on a Holy Day, the kids marched into the Church as if they were going to an "Assembly" (do they still call them that) to see a magician or something. Noisy as all getout. And nobody attempted to silence them.

  4. FWIW, at at our parochial school compulsory Mass attendance is set for Friday every week. (Except when it's moved for in favor of, say, Ash Wednesday or some other Holy Day...)

For this archdiocese, that's considered pretty strict stuff.

  5. Our local Catholic school had students talk about the school during Mass (well, after) for Catholic School Week. The sixth grader who spoke at our Mass proudly stated that they have two Liturgies a month that the students help plan (music, etc.). I told my hubby on the way home that at one time, daily Mass was the norm for Catholic schools.
